About

The South Kent Junior Chamber (also known as the Jaycees) is a dynamic group of young people between the ages of 21-40 who are focused on bettering themselves and giving back to their community. By hosting numerous events throughout the year, the Jaycees provide opportunities for our members to develop their leadership skills, forge valuable connections with community leaders (both personally and professionally) and volunteer in support of community organizations.

The Jaycees were formally established in 1920 as an organization that would help young people develop their skills as leaders by tackling civic problems. Throughout the years, the Jaycees’ efforts have centered on voter registration, construction of airports, annual recognition of the Yen Outstanding Young Americans, conservation of our country’s natural resources and parks and combating young smoking, among many other worthy causes,. Jaycees alumni include leaders such as past Presidents Gerald Ford and Bill Clinton, Domino Pizza mogul Tom Monaghan, Miss America Kay Lani Rae Rafko-Wilson and basketball great Larry Bird.

The South Kent Junior Chamber have been a force for positive change in our community since 1956. Our contributions include hosting Holiday Baskets (providing families in need in Kentwood and surrounding region with holiday dinner food and gifts), staff for food trucks, CPR Training and other community based events for families. All our events are run by our members, who have regular full-time jobs but who are dedicated to improving their city. Through their Jaycees memberships, our members develop essential skills and connections that serve the throughout their lives and careers.
